Diagnostic Assessment / Consultation

Gaining a clear understanding of a problem is a key element of providing the best response. Dr. Dodgson is well-trained in the assessment of psychological conditions and personality. If you are looking for diagnostic clarity (e.g., nature and type of depression, personality factors, etc.), you may wish to undertake such an assessment. People also benefit from assessment in situations involving important decisions or vocational discernment. Young people wondering what to study after high school or adults facing major decisions (e.g., career change, vocation to Church ministry) can benefit.

Psychological assessments involve one or more interviews along with the administration of a set of psychological tests. Interviews can be structured to increase objectivity and validity. Psychological tests—as opposed simple questionnaires—are instruments developed and validated empirically. In other words, there is science behind them to support that they reliably measure what they say they measure.

Psychological tests can assess:

  • Psychological symptoms, distress
  • Personality features and characteristics
  • Intelligence and cognitive abilities
  • Presence of symptoms related to a specific disorder
  • Skills and interests

Dr. Dodgson does not perform assessments for motor vehicle accidents or learning disabilities. Suitable referrals can be sought through The Ontario Psychological Association.
